Background

Scott has been teaching and tutoring in San Francisco for over three decades. He loves helping people of all ages set and reach their very highest, most personally-rewarding academic and career goals.

Scott has had the good fortune to attend some of the best schools in California, Connecticut, and France. He has a BA in History, a California Teachers Credential, and MA degrees in Education and in Sociolinguistics.

When not engaged in his first-love activities, teaching and learning, Scott can most often be found on Bay Area bike trails, leading rides for the AIDS Life Cycle event that benefits the SF AIDS Foundation, biking in other long-distance charity rides, hiking through National Forests, touring museums, tiny towns, and vibrant cities in countries around the world, or curled up in a cozy corner with a great book.

Scott gets great pleasure from helping HS students gain entry to a wide variety of undergraduate programs. He also takes pride in providing the best possible guidance for college graduates (many of whom also have career experiences) that helps them choose best-fit graduate programs in diverse fields, earn best possible scores the GRE, GMAT, or LSAT exams and gain entry to a plethora of graduate programs throughout the USA and abroad.

Scott has also helped younger ambitious students gain with enrichment programs during schoolyear and summer. He helps Bay Area and farther afield US students and even some international middle school students gain admission to their top-choice High Schools in San Francisco, many of the best private and public HS throughout the Bay Area, and some top boarding schools on the East Coast plus a scattering of English-language schools around the world. He also helps HS students maintain excellence in rigorous college prep programs and thereby prepare for top SAT scores and admission to the most selective colleges with weekly counseling/ coaching /study skills sessions.

Scott has taught several subjects in all grades, 6-12, from remedial through top AP and Honors levels, on both coasts of North America and in France, in a wide variety of public schools. He also taught undergraduate college courses and served as a writing tutor at UC Berkeley when a Graduate student there himself. Scott has helped students of all ages (youngest so far = 4; oldest to date = 85) who attend a wide variety of private, parochial, and public schools. He works with students (both one:one/semi-privately and in perfect-fit small- and medium-sized groups) raise scores on difficult tests (ACT, CBEST, GMAT, GRE, LSAT, SAT, SSAT, TOEFL/TOEIC…), improve GPA and study skills.
